Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal data productivitytech.io collects, why it is collected, who it is shared with, and what rights you have. It is written to meet the requirements of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) as implemented in Norwegian law.

Who is responsible for your data

The data controller for productivitytech.io is:

The site is written and operated by Sindre Fjellestad. There is no separate data protection officer; questions go to the address above.

Affiliate links

Some articles on this site contain affiliate links. If you click one and subsequently buy or subscribe, I may receive a commission from the merchant at no extra cost to you. Affiliate links are disclosed in the article that contains them.

The affiliate programmes currently in use run through Impact (Impact Tech, Inc.), including the Setapp programme operated by MacPaw. When you click an affiliate link you leave productivitytech.io and are redirected through Impact’s tracking domain to the merchant. In that process Impact and the merchant may set cookies or similar identifiers in your browser so that a later purchase can be attributed to this site. The referral window for the Setapp programme is 45 days.

I do not receive your name, email address or payment details from these programmes. I see aggregated reporting only: number of clicks, number of conversions and commission earned. The handling of your data after you leave this site is governed by the privacy policies of Impact and of the merchant you are sent to.

Reviews on this site are based on my own use of the products. A commission does not change the verdict, and articles are not submitted to merchants for approval before publication.

What data is collected, and why

Contact form

• Data: your name, email address, subject and message.
• Purpose: to read and answer your enquiry.
• Legal basis: steps taken at your request prior to entering into a contract, and legitimate interest in responding to people who contact me (GDPR art. 6(1)(b) and 6(1)(f)).
• Where it goes: the submission is stored in a private Notion database and a copy is emailed to sindre@productivitytech.io.
• Retention: kept while the conversation is open and for up to 24 months afterwards, then deleted.

Newsletter signup

• Data: your email address and the date you signed up.
• Purpose: to send you the newsletter.
• Legal basis: your consent (GDPR art. 6(1)(a)), given when you submit the form.
• Where it goes: a private Notion database.
• Retention: until you unsubscribe or ask to be removed.

You can withdraw your consent at any time by emailing sindre@productivitytech.io. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that took place before you withdrew it.

Analytics — Google Analytics 4

• Data: pages viewed, referring page, approximate location derived from your IP address, device and browser type, and randomly generated cookie identifiers that let Google Analytics recognise a returning browser.
• Purpose: to understand which articles are read and how people find the site.
• Provider: Google Ireland Limited / Google LLC, measurement ID G-3DNDBSJ9PN, loaded on every page of this site.
• Retention: Google Analytics retains event-level data according to the property’s retention setting; the cookies described below expire after up to two years unless you delete them earlier.

Analytics is used for aggregate statistics. I do not use it to identify individual visitors, and no advertising or remarketing features are enabled. See Cookies and your choices below for how to opt out.

Google Search Console

This site is verified in Google Search Console (connected through the Google Site Kit plugin). Search Console reports aggregated statistics about how the site performs in Google Search — search queries, impressions, clicks and average position. The reports are aggregated and anonymised by Google; they do not let me identify who searched for what.

Server logs

• Data: IP address, requested URL, timestamp, browser user agent and response code.
• Purpose: operating the server, troubleshooting and defending against attacks.
• Legal basis: legitimate interest in keeping the site secure and available (GDPR art. 6(1)(f)).
• Where it goes: the web server, hosted by Hetzner Online GmbH in Germany (EU/EEA).
• Retention: logs rotate automatically and are kept for a short period, typically a few weeks.

Fonts and avatars loaded from third parties

Typefaces on this site are loaded from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com). Where an avatar image is shown, it may be loaded from Gravatar (secure.gravatar.com, operated by Automattic). When your browser fetches these files, your IP address and browser information are transmitted to the provider. No cookies are set by these requests.

What is not collected

This site does not sell products directly, does not process payments, and does not ask for payment card details. Comments are not enabled. There are no advertising networks, no remarketing pixels and no social media tracking pixels on the site. Your personal data is never sold, rented or traded.

Cookies and your choices

Cookies are small files stored by your browser. The cookies used on productivitytech.io are:

• _ga and _ga_<container-id> — set by Google Analytics to distinguish browsers and sessions. Expiry: up to 2 years.
• Impact affiliate cookies — set on the merchant’s or Impact’s domain, not on productivitytech.io, after you click an affiliate link. Expiry depends on the programme; 45 days for Setapp.
• WordPress session cookies — only set if you log in to the site’s administration area. Ordinary readers never receive these.

Analytics currently loads on every page view, and a consent banner that lets you accept or decline analytics cookies before they are set is being implemented. Until it is in place, you can prevent or remove analytics cookies in these ways:

• Install Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
• Block or delete cookies for productivitytech.io in your browser settings, or use a private/incognito window.
• Enable your browser’s tracking protection, or use a content blocker.
• Email sindre@productivitytech.io and ask for any data associated with you to be deleted.

Who your data is shared with

Data is shared only with the service providers needed to run the site:

• Hetzner Online GmbH (Germany) — hosting.
• Notion Labs, Inc. (USA) — storage of contact form and newsletter signups.
• Google Ireland Limited / Google LLC (Ireland/USA) — analytics, Search Console and fonts.
• Impact Tech, Inc. (USA) — affiliate link tracking.
• Automattic Inc. (USA) — Gravatar avatar images, where shown.

Data may also be disclosed if required by law or by a valid order from a public authority.

Transfers outside the EU/EEA

Notion, Google, Impact and Automattic are based in the United States, so some processing takes place outside the EU/EEA. These transfers rely on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework where the provider is certified under it, and otherwise on the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses together with the providers’ supplementary safeguards.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

• ask what personal data is held about you, and get a copy of it;
• have inaccurate data corrected;
• have your data deleted;
• have processing restricted, or object to processing based on legitimate interest;
• receive data you provided in a portable, machine-readable format;
• withdraw a consent you have given, at any time.

To exercise any of these, email sindre@productivitytech.io. Requests are answered within 30 days. There is no automated decision-making or profiling with legal effects on this site.

If you believe your data is being handled unlawfully, you can complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority, Datatilsynet — datatilsynet.no.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS, kept up to date, and protected by server- and application-level hardening. Access to the administration area and to the Notion databases is restricted and protected by strong authentication. No system is perfectly secure, but data is not kept longer than needed and is limited to what the site actually requires.

Children

This site is aimed at a professional adult audience and is not directed at children. Personal data is not knowingly collected from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has submitted data through this site, email me and it will be deleted.

Changes to this policy

This policy is updated when the site changes what it collects or which services it uses. The date at the top always reflects the current version. Material changes will be noted on this page.
